Conservation Options for Landowners

Learn about conservation options available to Minnesota landowners, information about how to identify which program is right for you, and how to apply to participate. This workshop is in partnership with the Minnesota Land Trust.

Loon Workshop_Citizen Science

From Land to Water: Conserving Minnesota’s Loons

Learn about banding programs, habitat restoration efforts, and what you can do to help protect Minnesota's state bird. This is an in-person workshop at the Cross Lake Recreation Area with a field component aboard the National Loon Center's StewardShip on Cross Lake. Spaces are limited. Registration is required.

Thursday, September 19

  • 2:30pm - 4:30pm: Loon Friendly Fishing 
    • Learn from one of the program coordinators at the MPCA Get The Lead Out program about how lead tackle impacts loons and our lakes.
  • 5:00pm - 7:00pm: Pre-Migration Behaviors - This workshop is full.
    • An introduction to seasonal loon monitoring programs.

Conservation for Lake Associations

Delve into the intricacies of establishing a conservation committee. Our panel will
share their experiences and invaluable advice, offering firsthand insights into
overcoming obstacles and maximizing conservation efforts to preserve your lake. It's recommended for 2-3 members of a lake association to participate to be able to work together, but not required. There will be time for questions.

Participation is FREE thanks to grant funding through the Outdoor Heritage Fund as part of the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment.

This workshop is offered in a hybrid format with in-person and virtual options available.

Your Cabin, Your Family, Your Legacy

Join us for a workshop on cabin succession planning and learn about preserving your lake property and legacy. Experts will present options for passing on your land to your heirs and for protecting its conservation value.

These workshops are offered in a hybrid format with in-person and virtual options available.

Resilient Shorelines

Learn what you can do to help protect your shoreline and water quality with shorelines buffers and pollinator habitats.

This workshop is a collaboration between Northern Waters Land Trust and Blue Thumb: Planting for Clean Water.

Fisheries in Northern Minnesota

Presentation by the DNR on fish communities in Minnesota lakes. Learn about muskie, walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass, their diets and communities and prey species in lakes including yellow perch and cisco.

Fisheries Field Day

Get out on the water and tour the Miller's Bay Aquatic Management Area (AMA) on Leech Lake. Learn about efforts to protect this spawning habitat and its surroundings for generations.
