Grant Description & Goals

Northern Waters Land Trust received grant funding from the Initiative Foundation to:

  • Explore the viability of forest carbon sequestration within land conservation easement programs.
  • Determine the type and level of financial incentive likely to encourage landowners to participate in a carbon sequestration program.

NWLT is partnering with Hubbard County SWCD, MN DNR, and Bemidji State University to survey landowners, survey conservation easement administrators, and conduct a literature review of current carbon sequestration & land protection work being conducted in the United States.
