"Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land."
Landowner Resources for Land Conservation
LLAWF, in partnership with Cass County (for Cass County properties) and the Minnesota Land Trust, offers financial assistance grants to qualifying conservation-minded landowners in Cass, Crow Wing, and Aitkin counties who are interested in placing a conservation easement on their shoreland property. The landowner donates the easement and the grant pays the landowner’s “out-of-pocket” closing costs for the easement and an appraisal to determine the value of the easement for IRS charitable donation purposes.
Funding is available through either the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund or the Minnesota Clean Water Land & Legacy Amendment. Both grant programs, managed by the Leech Lake Area Watershed Foundation, seek to protect critical fish and wildlife habitat on sensitive and critical shorelands on key recreational lakes in North Central Minnesota.
